7th Literature/Reading
Instructor: Ms. Martin
Literature is a reading class.  We will read poetry, short stories, Greek/Roman myths, non-fiction, and at least one novel.  The class will include some writing as well as literature-styled tests.  Book reports and AR points will be part of this grade.

Grades will be weighted.  Literature/Reading Assignments will be 60%.
                                     AR will be 20%.
                                     Participation will be 20%.

There will always be an assignment that can be re-read at home.  There is often homework (in the form of written assignments) in this class.  There will not always be time to complete independent book reports during class.

First Teaching Sequence: How to Write a Book Report.
Read From the Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler by E. L. Konigsburg.  The reading should be complete by Monday, August 29, and you may need to read outside of the classroom to keep up.  The book report will be due on Friday, September 2.  There will be individual assignments to help you do well on the book report.  These will be done during class.
First Independent Book Report - September 23
The first independent book report is due on September 23.  It will follow the same plot-line report form we used for From the Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler.
Book Report Requirements
1)  Bopoks must be worth at least 3 AR points.
2)  Books must be at least 100 pages long.
3)  Books must not be below the bottom number of your ZPD.

I will not accept book reports over graphic novels including Diary of a Wimpy KidDiary. . . books do not have good plot lines so writing books reports which ask students to identify parts of a plot line is extremely difficult.  Students may read them for AR points but not for written book reports.
